Nothing poetic about this - shooting on streets of Tehran (video sent to BBC Persia) http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/iran/2009/06/090620_og_tehran_shooting.shtml
Many thanks Roxanne - what a wonderfully emotional poem. I've posted it so that it is properly appreciated. Quick question though: Should the 'shrod' read 'shroud'..? I've changed it on the assumption you dropped a letter, but please let me know if shrod is correct and I'll change it back! Thanks again.
What it isn't is connected to post-critical naiveté or other such terms - the title was chosen blind to their existence. And it has no connection with religious faith, something google throws up when searching both words. It is a work-in-progress, and it hovers between critique and optimism. Now do you understand? No, me neither.

ReplyDeleteSILENCE, MY SISTER
ReplyDeleteFor every secret sealed in flame,
Each grief engraved without a name,
I'll summon tender truths from shame,
With tears my talisman.
I'll shred the shrod of disbelief
And scatter ashes of relief,
Then weave these words into a wreath
No season can upbraid.
I'll lift the earth into the sky
So fallen stars again will rise;
Your suffering is my battle cry--
You did not die alone.

ReplyDeleteYes, it should certainly read "shroud" instead of "shrod." Thank you for alerting me of the error and, of course, for appreciating the poem!
